NNPC Increases Gas Supply to Power Plants by 123%

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has increased daily average natural gas supply to the nation’s gas power plants by 123 per cent to 730 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d).
The Corporation, in its June 2017 Monthly Financial and Operations Report released today, said the gas supply was for June 2017 as against 327mmscf/d in the corresponding period in 2016.
According to the report, gas supply to power plants increased slightly by 0.13 per cent from 729mmscf/d in May 2017 to 730mmscf/d in June 2017.
The report also indicated that nationwide petroleum products supply continued to record remarkable stability following the performance of Nigeria’s three refineries which produced between five and six million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, per day in June 2017.
The refineries also produced between five and six million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel, per day in the period under review.
“The Corporation has maintained seamless nationwide supply and distribution of petroleum products which guarantees stable products and queue-free filling stations across the nation,” the report stated.
The report also showed that the performance of the Port Harcourt Refinery continued to improve with a boost to the midstream value chain as it inched towards sustained commercial operations.
It would be recalled that the pump price of diesel crashed by 42% nationwide following strategic intervention by the Corporation in May 2017.

On pipeline vandalism, the report indicated that the Corporation recorded about eighty six (86) cases of pipeline breaks across the country in the period under review.

According to the report, out of these 86 cases, 77 were due to pipeline vandalism, which represents almost 40% increase relative to cases recorded in the previous month (May 2017).

The report added that while the Port Harcourt-Aba line recorded the highest pipeline breaches of 55 points (66%), there was also an unusual upsurge in the activities of vandal along Kaduna-Zaria line which witnessed 13 vandalized points during the period.

There was also a slight decrease in national gas production compared to previous month which stood at 227.15BCF or an average of 7,571.50 mmscfd, the report noted.
This, the Corporation explained, was despite sustaining the success recorded by its enhanced crude oil evacuation and oil lifting in June, 2017 following re-opening of Forcados Oil Terminal (FOT) on 31st March, 2017.
The NNPC further called on Nigerians to continue to support the Corporation in the area of security with a view to ensuring zero vandalism of the nation’s oil and gas infrastructures.
The June 2017 report is the 23rd edition in the series which seeks to sustain effective communication with the Corporation’s stakeholders in line with its commitment to becoming more accountable, responsive and transparent organisation.

NNPC, India Seek Deeper Collaboration on Medicare

As part of efforts to jump-start its diversification into the health care business, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has requested a deeper collaboration with India in the area of expertise and state-of-the-art medical equipment to revitalize its 52 clinics across the country.

The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, who made this proposition on Thursday in Abuja when he received the Indian High Commissioner, His Excellency Nagabushana Reddy, said such cooperation would reduce the trend of medical tourism from Nigeria to various countries.

The GMD said the Corporation was already discussing with some Indian health care providers to come into the country and help grow the capacities of its medical staff with the aim of putting in place world class health care facilities in-country.

NNPC GMD urged the High Commissioner to encourage Indian oil and gas companies to participate in the forthcoming marginal fields bid round, adding that their participation would further deepen the bilateral relations between Nigeria and India.

Dr. Baru noted that there existed a symbiotic commercial relationship between the Nigeria and India which has led to the increase of daily crude oil supply to India to 30,000 barrels per day in 2017.

“We recognize that India is one of the highest off-takers of Nigeria’s crude oil and we are ready to ensure that this harmonious economic relationship is sustained going forward,” Dr. Baru averred.

On his part, Mr. Reddy, said India and Nigeria had very high bilateral relations adding that India was ready to further expand the diverse collaboration in economic, trade, commerce and security.

He stated that India was one of the highest importers of Nigeria’s crude oil and applauded the NNPC for keeping to the terms of the contracts with three of its indigenous companies, stressing that the visit was to further consolidate the gains of previous engagements.

Shettima: Attacks on NNPC, UNIMAID staff a tragic setback

Gov. Kashim Shettima, Borno State
… Consoles with families of soldiers, CJTF, workers
… Says Military can confirm my dedication in fight against Boko Haram
Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima has described Boko Haram’s violent attacks on geologists and exploration workers from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and the University of Maiduguri as a tragic setback in the fight against Boko Haram and in efforts to boost Nigeria’s economic fortunes.
In a statement emailed to journalists by his spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, Governor Shettima said since he first got information concerning the attack on his way to visit the President in London, he hasn’t been his normal self and is yet to recover from the shock of that attack.
“I haven’t been myself normal self since I received information on that attack. What happened in the first instance was a tragic setback in the fight against Boko Haram and in Nigeria’s effort to expand its economic fortunes. I am deeply pained by this incident especially coming at a time when we were beginning to pick up the pieces of our lives. Even though the attack should never have happened given the successes recorded by the Military and multi-national joint forces since 2015, I nonetheless still deem it necessary to commend the military for re-mobilising and countering the initial gains of the insurgents. On behalf of Government and people of Borno State, I mourn and salute the soldiers and our sons in the Civilian JTF who paid the supreme price by giving their lives in this fight. ‎I commiserate with their families and loved ones. For now, I am still waiting for full details concerning the ambush by the insurgents and counter attack by the military to fully ascertain number and identity of victims. But pending report to me, I mourn and salute any worker or supportive staff who might have lost his or her life in the course of trying to contribute in boosting Nigeria’s economy through exploration activities in the Chad basin. My heart goes to the families of every victim. The Borno State Government will never forsake the survivors of those who lost their lives defending Borno or  in service to our country. On our part, (and as can be corroborated by all security agencies, youth volunteers and hunters involved in the fight against Boko Haram) the Borno State Government has never lost focus in doing whatever is within its powers in supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, in funding and equipping the Civil JTF and other volunteers, in mobilizing and passing on intelligence generated from communities and in regularly briefing all those concerned with the fight against Boko Haram. I must say that in all my series of meetings with the Presidency, President Muhammadu Buhari and the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo have jointly and individually shown tremendous political will to end this carnage once and for all. I assure the good people of Borno State and other Nigerians that we are not resting on oars. We have devotedly been committed to this fight (again, as armed forces and multi-nationals involved in this battle can testify). We believe that by the power and grace of God, the battle against Boko Haram will be completed soon. I urge our military, volunteers in the Civilian JTF, vigilantes and hunters to consider what happened as a temporary setback that should strengthen our will and collective determination to defeat the forces of evil. I am confident that Boko Haram will become history, by the will of the Nigerian Armed Forces through the supreme help of God” Shettima was quoted in the statement.
